Silkxchange is a curated marketplace dedicated to new and pre-owned classic menswear items. While we expect our members to hold themselves to a high standard, the platform is actively monitored and vetted by community-experts to ensure that condition, authenticity and high level of product quality is maintained at all times.

 

While every listing is subject to review, if the piece being listed is in wearable condition and crafted with care over time, chances are you’ve come to the right place to find it a new home. Buyers and sellers are also subject to peer-to-peer transaction ratings and reviews. Feedback should be based on listing accuracy, shipping time and buyer/seller communication. Ratings and reviews are publicly visible on each user's profile page.

 

Please note: every seller is responsible for the authenticity of their listings and community members may report listings to trigger a review. In the event of a counterfeit offence, Silkxchange maintains the right to take appropriate action including but not limited to the issuance of listing removals and permanent bans.

What are the payment options and fees?

  • Silkxchange is free for buyers and offers end-to-end payment solutions via PayPal and Stripe to ensure safe and secure transactions.
     

  • All transactions are in USD, and sellers pay a low commission fee of 7%.
     

  • To finish setting up your payments, simply visit your profile settings on the marketplace website and click on the 'payments' tab at the bottom.

What is the return policy?

  • Every transaction is eligible for a full refund within 90 days. Buyer protection is guaranteed in cases of lost, damaged or misrepresented items.
     

  • Return shipping is always at the buyer's own expense unless otherwise agreed.
     

  • We encourage sellers to clearly state their return policies in-listing alongside details concerning any noticeable flaws or irregularities.

Is there a dispute resolution mechanism?

  • We encourage all members to work together to find solutions to any disputes that may arise, however we maintain the right to intervene upon request. The proceeding investigation may result in the issuance of a full or partial refund.
     

  • Disputes must be triggered within 30 days of delivery. We maintain a commitment to resolving the dispute within 90 days.

Additional Guidelines

Shipping & returns

  • ​Sellers must provide a tracking number as buyer protection is guaranteed in cases of lost or damaged items.

  • Listings must include the estimated shipping fee. As international shipping fees vary, we advise contacting your local post office to get an idea of the existing logistics solutions and prices available in your country. Shipping fees can be edited through my listings < edit listings.

  • We encourage sellers to clearly state their return policies in-listing. Return policies are at the discretion of the seller as stated, and return shipping is always at the buyer’s own expense unless otherwise agreed.

  • Finally, with help from our community, Silkxchange ensures all items are authentic. In the event that something goes wrong, every transaction conducted on Silkxchange is eligible for a full refund within 90 days.

  • For those using PayPal, you must upgrade your personal PayPal account to a free business account to sell online. Don't worry, the  business account functions exactly like a personal account, it simply allows you to receive payments when selling anywhere online.

Item Authenticity & Condition

  • Silkxchange is actively monitored and vetted by community-experts to ensure that authenticity and high level of product quality is maintained at all times.

  • Sellers are required to indicate the condition of their listings by using the following 10-point scale:
    10/10 - New, never used or worn, with or without tags
    9/10 - Excellent, light signs of use or wear
    8/10 - Great, some signs of use or wear
    7/10 - Good, obvious signs of use or wear.
    6/10 or below - the item is sold as-is. 

Best Practices

  • We encourage all completed purchases to be shipped within 3 business days from the day of purchase.

  • When listing an item, sellers must indicate its type, size, condition and price, including whether it is new or preowned.

  • Sellers should also indicate their return policy as well as any noticeable flaws or irregularities in size and condition.

  • We encourage sellers to provide appropriate packaging on all sales.

    Measuring your garments
    With 10 minutes and a tape measure, you can very easily measure your garments or take your own measurements with the help of a friend. Simply follow the instructions for each measurement.

    Jackets

  • Shoulders - measure the width of the back from across shoulder seam to shoulder seam;

  • Chest - measure the width of the chest from pit to pit (tape should rest just under the armpit);
    Note: when measuring yourself, measure fully around the chest.

  • Sleeves - measure the length of the arm from shoulder seam to the sleeve's end;
    Note: when measuring yourself, start from top of shoulder down the arm to the top of the “V” made by the thumb and index finger.

  • Jacket length - measure from the middle of the collar to the bottom of the jacket;
    Note: when measuring yourself, the jacket should sit around the knuckle of your index finger.

    Trousers

  • Waist - measure fully around your waist, wherever you prefer your trousers to sit;
    Note: we love medium-high and high-rise trousers for a particularly classic look.

  • Length - measure from your preferred waist down the side of your leg;
    Note: if wearing dress shoes, typically measure just above the sole of the shoe.

  • Inseam - measure from the crotch down to the bottom of the pant leg.

  • Rise -  measure vertically from the crotch up to the top of the waist. 

    Finding your right fit
    Nobody is born in a perfectly tailored suit. Dressing well is a skill that requires practice and patience, and understanding your clothes well is part of that journey. For this reason, we have formulated the following list of considerations you may wish to make before making a purchase online:

     

  • Have I taken my measurements as explained in the above section on measuring your garments? Do they match those in the listing?

  • Is the fabric or structure of the garment seasonal?

  • In the case of a jacket, are the lapels particularly wide or narrow? Is the gorge particularly high or low? Do I have a preference for one or the other and am I comfortable wearing something some may consider ‘vintage’?

  • Is there enough fabric to let out should alterations be needed? Have the sleeves been altered before? Are the buttons finished?

  • What types of alterations might be possible?

  • What is the seller’s return policy?
